A few things to know:

We use a special cleaner we found to clean all surfaces, even the cloth seats, that kills all sorts of pathogens including Covid-19. We wash our hands often, and have hand sanitizer available in multiple places throughout the building. We’ve been cleaning and updating our HVAC systems as well to ensure clean air and air quality. We have tripled filtered air! 2 Hospital grade filters and a UV light filter. Masks are recommended. We’ll open the doors 30 minutes early.

If you have COVID or have been exposed, or have any symptoms, we appreciate you staying home.

We need your help. RVAHub is a small, independent publication and we depend on your support to help us provide a vital community service. With the exception of the occasional local advertiser, we 100% rely on donations to keep the site running. If you enjoy our content and want to help us keep it going, would you consider a donation as small as $5? We would be immensely grateful!

Richard Hayes is the co-founder of RVAHub. When he isn't rounding up neighborhood news, he's likely watching soccer or chasing down the latest and greatest board game.

It’s Juneteenth and Father’s Day so there is a lot going and we’ve picked our favorites.

Juneteenth All Weekend Various Times and Locations

There are way too many events to highlight just one. Here are some lists of various events going on in the area.

Kickers vs. Northern Colorado Hailstorm June 11th, Gates 5PM Kickoff 6:30PM, Tickets

This will be the last time for a couple weeks that I’ll be picking the Kickers. The weather is looking perfect for catching some soccer and the Kickers are fresh off a decisive win.

It hasn’t become Virginia hell-hot yet. Get outside and enjoy the calm before the roasting.

The COVID-19 Community Level remains high for Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield. The 7-day average case rates per 100,000 people in each locality are 270, 260, 247, respectively. CDC guidance continues to recommend that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in indoor public places. So we’ll be concentrating on outdoor venues.

Side note: I tested positive for Covid on Monday and have been isolating since then. Minor symptoms I’m assuming due to being full vaxed. Anecdotally I know of way more friends and family that have gotten Covid in the past month than during any time in the pandemic.

Cars & Cuts 2022 in Mechanicsville (7167 Flag Ln) June 12th, 10AM-3PM, Free

I also wanted to have a cool car. Then for a little while I had a sweet 1968 Ford Galaxy. I quickly learned that unless you have mechanical skills you’re going to spend a lot of money. I don’t have a lot of money so I said goodbye to my sweet Galaxy. If you’ve got a sweet car or just want to be jealous of others this is the event for you.

It’s time for our favorite event of the year… CARS & CUTS 2022! This is a community car show and cruise in for all to participate in!

Every year we try to out do the year prior, and this year would be no different! We will of course the Mobile Barbershop up and rolling as well as the same great DJ and Amazing local Food / Shaved Ice Trucks but we’re also turning up the heat a in a few others ways this year:

1) There WILL BE plaques & prizes (FREE T-Shirt, FREE Haircut Gift Card, and a Cash Prize) given out to the top 3 Local Favorites! To enter your car/truck/bike to win there will be a $10 entry fee. You’ll get a car number card to put in your window and everyone in attendance will vote using those numbers! – if you’re not interested in partaking in the show portion, you’re still welcome to join us for free and just cruise on in and enjoy the day! (You can bring your car and hang out for free, only those who pay the entree fee will get the window card and have the ability to win!) *** This is new this year so don’t be disturbed, we want you to bring your cars/trucks/bikes regardless!

2) In attempts to make the show a little more family/community friendly we will be having a limited amount of vendors on site selling local products! We will have vendors selling fresh squeezed lemonade and limeade as well as face painters and so much more!!! – Vendor spaces are $30 and we’ve got about 10 spaces remaining! Please message the shop, or Jacob Smith Directly! PLEASE understand that because spaces are limited we’re going to do our absolute best to provide a broad spectrum of vendors without too much overlap!

3) PORTA POTTY 😂🤣 While we will still have access to the pavilion bathrooms like we’ve had every year, This year we will be renting 1 or 2 to place a little closer to the event to provide guests a little more comfort. It’s going to be an awesome time, and we can’t wait to see y’all there! REMEMBER, this is a community event for all to enjoy so PLEASE SHARE & TAG EVERYONE to spread the word! Especially the “Car People” in your lives! If you’re apart of a local car group/club, we’d love to have you!

We’ve got access to the grass lot as well as the paved lot so there is plenty of space!!

Block Party at the Richmond SPCA June 4th, 1-6 PM, Tickets are $8 before the event, $10 at the gate, and free for children 12 and under

I’m not a dog owner but I’m a big lover of the beasts and thankful for all the work that Richmond SPCA does on their behalf. If you are as well this is a great way to show your love and you’ll have a good time as well.

Twenty years ago, the Richmond SPCA boldly adopted a no-kill operating model and pledged to save the life of every healthy and treatably sick or injured homeless animal in our care. Saving thousands of lives while expanding our mission has been deeply rewarding work that we are eager to celebrate with our community. To that end, we invite animal lovers young and old to join us for a celebratory block party with a retro theme.

Hosted on the grounds of the Richmond SPCA, the day, presented by Moore Subaru will feature live music, beer/wine trucks, food trucks, special activities for animal lovers of all ages, and a variety of vendors in our pet-friendly marketplace. Join us for a fun celebration with a nostalgic vibe that takes you on a journey through time to remember the pop culture dominating your radio, CD player, television and closet 20 years ago.

Barkitecture 2022 at Mainline Brewery June 5th, 2-5PM, Free to Attend

Continuing with the I love dogs theme. Another dog focused event. I’m not ignoring cats, they’ll be there as well, I’m just showing them the same level of indifference that my own cat shows me.

Barkitecture is back! Join the Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers for a day of paws and pints and help us raise money for some animals in need! Come by to see custom built dog houses, kitty condos and custom dog accessories designed by local creatives, designers and architects and vote for your favorite. This ASID Virginia fundraiser brings the community together in support of our local designers and adoptable animals! There will also be food trucks, face-painting, a pet photo booth, games and raffles! Fun for the whole family, including the fur-babies. A percentage of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Richmond Animal Care and Control!
