Connecticut wildlife biologists rescued a bear cub that was found in Connecticut last week with a clear plastic container stuck on its head.

State wildlife biologists rescued a bear cub that looked like a furry alien in a bubble helmet, but was actually in danger of asphyxiation.

The weather was warm and the clear plastic container was tight around the cub’s head, so removing it was vital, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Wildlife biologists waited for the bear to come down from a tree before tranquilizing it and removing the container last week. Once freed, the cub quickly found its mother waiting nearby. DEEP officials did not specify the location, but littering is a danger to wildlife across the state.

People can help prevent such situations by properly securing trash and recyclables, state wildlife officials say. Whether it be balloons, fishing line or plastic containers, animals often ingest items or get tangled and die.
